Violist Julia Kim has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. She began her musical education at age three, first studying piano, and at age thirteen, viola. She made her solo debut, performing the Schubert viola concerto, with the Busan Sinfonietta, in South Korea, when she was sixteen years old. She has been featured as a soloist with several orchestras, including the Torino Chamber Orchestra, in Italy, and the Hungarian Chamber Ensemble, in Hungary.
Julia has performed as a recitalist and chamber musician around the world, including the Lincoln Center Festival, in New York; Simon Art Hall, Kumho Art Hall, Youngsan Art Hall, Busan Cultural Center, in South Korea; Ludwig's Church, Max-Joseph-Sall, in Germany; and Schönnbrunn Palace Theater, in Austria. She is also an advocate of new music and has performed in several new music concerts and festivals, including the Sixteenth Biennial Festival of New Music, the Ensemble für Neue Musik, with the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography, and for the Seven Days of Opening Nights.
Julia earned a Doctor of Music degree from Florida State University, and her Master of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. She also received the Master of Music and Bachelor of Music from the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna). She has studied musicology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, in Germany, and attended Yonsei University in South Korea.
